Kel Lauren

Kel Lauren (they/them) is a Graphic Designer & t-shirt enthusiast on unceded Cowlitz Land (Portland, OR), specializing in merchandise design. Currently freelancing for Bravado/UMG, Epic Records, United Artist Management, and Take & Thrown.

I first found Kel Lauren at youtube, where they do a lot of graphic design tutorial videos and challenges such as rebranding logos and designing brands from scratch.

Their channel skyrocketed because their videos are accessible for anyone willing to learn graphic design, and they do it in a fun and entertaining way.

Kelly’s YouTube videos have included redesigns of some famous company’s logos and packaging. To name a few: Starbucks, Mountain Dew, Playtex, Cheetos and more.

During their interview with The DIELINE, they talked about their process when creating a video and how they share it with the world. They talk about how gatekeeping is a thing in the design industry and it’s something that they don’t want to be a part of.

“There are all sorts of ups and downs … It’s important to show that, so when people experience a creative block, or they’re going through a creative project, they know what signs to look for… The creative process is so hidden and so personal, but it’s necessary to share it with other people so we can work through things together.”

Kel Lauren has been a huge inspiration to me, their passion for their craft and their willingness to share what they Know to world is definitely something to aspire to.
